PUBLIC Notice of Post-Closure Permit Renewal Application Submission United States Steel Corporation (USS) is filing a post-closure permit renewal application with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection that includes provisions for continued post-closure monitoring and maintenance activities for the closed South Taylor Environmental Park (STEP) Hazardous Waste Landfill, Site I.D. No. 739672, located at 555 Delwar Road, West Mifflin, PA 15236. This application is being filed pursuant to the requirements of the current hazardous waste management regulations, 25 PA Code Part 264. The STEP Hazardous Waste Landfill is an inactive disposal area where electric arc furnace dust was disposed until April 1983. The landfill was capped and closure was completed in 1994. An on-site treatment facility treats landfill leachate. This submittal is an application to renew the permit for continued post-closure care. Copies of the post-closure permit application will be available for review and copying after February 1, 2015 at the Southwest Regional Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) located at 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. The PADEP office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. An appointment must be made with the PADEP Regional Office to review the permit. Fees for copying may be charged by PADEP. The host municipality (West Mifflin Borough) and Allegheny County may submit comments to the PADEP within 60 days of the receipt of the permit application. The PADEP will also accept and consider comments from the public during the 60-day review period. Comments should be addressed to the PADEP Regional Solid Waste Manager at 400 Waterfront Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
